Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Information Systems (LIS) are based upon survey and mapping technologies that provide a geographical spatial display of both natural and man-made features of an area. GIS/LIS also includes other data, information and attributes associated with these features. GIS/LIS uses data from the Global Positioning System (GPS), aerial photography and conventional land surveying and mapping in its development of a digital terrain midel (DTM) .
